The actual psychological personality of a person is referred to as the ‘self’ of a person. Each one of us has a hidden self within us, but we are not aware of it. A human being thinks that it is his consciousness that lead his actions. Actually, our inner self guides our behavior in our day-to-day life.

This self is constructed and undergoes transformation with the passage of time as we experience new things. Ego also forms a part of our inner self. It makes us fight for our own identity in the world. It stresses on an individual existence of a human being separated from others. This will make an individual proud and selfish. He will neglect certain facts, which will be an obstacle in his self-awareness and thereby degrading his self-development. Thus for the development of the inner-self, the foremost step is self-introspection.

This means that an individual should look within himself and analyze his own personality. This way he will be able to make out his own strengths and weaknesses. After this, it will be easy for him to take on to the methods that add on to his strengths and subtract his weaknesses. A person will then become more attracted towards the positive ways of life. This can be selfless service towards humanity and moving away from the negative thoughts of life such as jealousy and frustration. This will lead to the healing of the inner-self.

Another way of self-healing is to take on an optimistic attitude towards life. Many of us are prone to pessimistic thinking, which is the reason why they fail to realize the possibility of a solution to the problem. Taking on a positive and constructive attitude will give an individual the strength to face the problems of life and seek a solution to the same.

Self-healing add on to the energy level of an individual and also aids in curing disorders like insomnia, aches, depression, and various physical and mental ailments. Meditation and yoga are some of the other ways that helps a person in the realization of a higher self.

Meditation is a method of healing that helps to think above his own individuality and think for the development of humanity as a whole. It is a three way process that works through self-regulation, self-exploration and self-liberation. It helps us to keep a check on our animal desires and improves our concentration.

In a quest to investigate the relationship that might exist, between the use of social media and weight loss, De Choudhury and her associates examined public data from users who have chosen to connect the calorie-counting app MyFitnessPal (MFP) to their Twitter accounts. They studied more than 2 million tweets and 100,000 daily MFP entries from about 700 people. Qualified users were identified via Twitter’s official streaming API by searching publicly shared posts with the hashtag “#myfitnesspal” that contained an embedded link.

The results revealed there’s a link between people’s tweets and whether or not they were attaining the calorie goals they set on the app. Positive tweets were tied to diet success among users.

The reason social media can help in weight loss include;

Writing a post on social media about your diet plans can increase your chance of attainment. According to a study from the Dominican University of California, sharing your goals with a friend predicts the likelihood of realizing it.

A total of 70 percent of partakers who reported their progress to a friend each week completed their goals, compared to 35 percent who kept it to themselves. Social media can give us our own set of cheerleaders that will root for us to achieve our goals.

Using apps like MFP are a great way to help us keep track of our food intake while we diet. It increases our mental awareness of what we’re eating.

A review conducted by Kaiser Permanente for Health Research found those who keep a food diary may lose twice as much weight. The more food records people kept, the more weight they lost. Simply writing down what we eat, like a blog, can encourage us to consume fewer calories.

The study, recently published online Psychological Science, when a student engages in self-reflection to identify and use resources wisely, the grades rises by an average of one third of a letter grade. The approach involves guiding the students to think about how they use learning resources. This method is based off of a well-established psychology concept known as metacognition.

This simply means, thinking about one’s thinking.

The benefits of self-reflective studying don’t stop at better grades. According to Futurity, students who practiced this routine also reported a higher feelings of empowerment regarding their education. They also perceived a greater control over their learning, and expressed less negative feelings about their upcoming exams.

A review was conducted at Patricia Chen and her associates at Stanford University. For this study, Chen and her team randomly assigned half of students in a college statistics class to receive a studying “intervention”, while the other half received no intervention at all.

Fear Of Death And Darkness Phobia.

Fear of the dark also known as Nyctophobia is common among young children who often fear that something catastrophic may happen to them in the night. In the darkness, we can’t see very well, and for a young child, particularly one with a healthy imagination, this can be very frightening. A pervading sense can build that something sinister is just out of sight and arm’s reach waiting for its moment to strike.

As a young child, I used to suffer from this phobia, as a result of which my mother used to leave the landing light on for me to provide a calming relief from the darkness. My parents also used to ask me questions to make me elaborate on my fears. By doing this, they showed concern and sympathy, while at the same time making it very clear that they were not afraid. In this way, parents can be of great use to their children.

The fear lessened as I grew older, then went away altogether. Most children as they grow up and the world around them becomes more logical and less fantastic, come to realise that they are quite safe in the darkness and their fears were irrational.

Some adults can suffer from this fear – particularly those who suffer from nightmares or have traumatic memories. Although gradual exposure to darkness can be helpful to nyctophobics, the management of nightmares and bad memories is liable to require specialist help.

Fear of death or Thantophobia is quite a natural phenomenon. None of us know what will happen to us after we die. But to be morbidly afraid of death is unhealthy and detrimental to our lives.
