According to a study, published in International Journal of Technoethics, revenge porn is the act of sharing intimate, sexually graphic images and/or videos of another person onto public online platforms. The online platforms can include, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

Recently, researchers at the University of Kent in England identified the most common psychological traits of a revenge porn perpetrator

According to the study carried out by lead researcher Dr. Afroditi Pina from the University’s School of Psychology, and her colleagues, revenge porn perpetrators possess a different personality profile, which makes them predisposed towards committing the terrible crime. There was a positive correlation between individuals most likely to engage in revenge porn, and a high level of the “Dark Triad” psychological characteristics.

What is the “Dark Triad”?

Image result for dark triads

The “Dark Triad” refers to three distinct personality traits: narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. The word “dark” was used to lay emphasis on the possession of malevolent qualities by such individual. Impulsivity and lack of empathy are the most common traits of individuals who are most likely to commit the crime.

How do you recognize them?

They are the ones most likely to want to stay friends after a breakup, but for their own benefit. Additionally, individuals who scored high for narcissism were most likely to prolong a former romantic relationship for practicality and the chance of hooking up. These people find it difficult letting go, so they seek revenge as a way of exerting their power and control over their victims.

Not only does Pina’s study give us insight into the psychological profile of a culprit, it also raises an important question, why is there a big acceptance of revenge porn among people?

We all have been there at one point or another in our life: we tend to get dumped, spend hours crying, and medicate our feelings away through binge feeding, alcohol, or cigarettes. Most definitely, we’re left with the physical pain of a broken heart.

Well, if researchers at the University of Colorado, have any say, your broken heart won’t last any further. They counsel getting over your ex is as easy as convincing yourself that you just are. it’s also referred to as the placebo effect.

Placebos are often powerful alternatives once it involves healing physical pain. The results arise from an acutely aware belief that what we’re doing can cause a speedy recovery.

Previous analysis has found, merely thinking a placebo can ease pain can cause the brain to unleash a lot of endorphins, or natural painkillers once it involves clinical outcomes.

Wager, who has researched the outcome for fifteen years, wanted to explore the influence of placebos on emotional pain from a breakup. In the study revealed in the Journal of neurobiology, the analysis team examined a bunch of forty volunteers who went through an “unwanted romantic breakup” within the last six months.

Participants were asked to bring a photograph of their ex and a photograph of a same-gendered close friend to a brain-imaging research lab in which Wager and his colleagues would perform functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans.

First, the participants were shown photos of their ex and asked to recollect the breakup, followed by pictures of their friend throughout a magnetic resonance imaging scan. Meanwhile, the researchers administered physical pain via a hot stimulant on their left forearm.

Researchers recurrent these stimuli as participants rated however they felt on a scale of one (very bad) to five (very good) upon viewing the photographs as their brain activity was being tracked. Magnetic resonance imaging scans disclosed regions activated throughout physical and emotional pain were similar.

The researchers tested the outcome by giving the participants a nasal spray; half were told it absolutely was a “powerful analgesic effective in reducing emotional pain” and half were told it absolutely was an easy isotonic solution, consistent with the news release.

Magnetic resonance imaging scans were performed once more alongside the stimuli to examine however the brain would respond when participants saw photos of their ex.

The findings disclosed the placebo had a strong impact on healing grief via brain activity. The participants showed a rise within the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex — a vicinity of the brain concerned in control emotions. At same time, areas of the brain connected to rejection showed less activity. After taking the placebo, participants were happiest once the periaqueductal grey (PAG) space of the midbrain displayed higher levels of activity.

10 Signs You’re Dating A Psychopath

Psychopaths make up about one percent of the general population (as in, not in a mental institution or jail) and most of them aren’t serial killers. They’re your conniving co-worker who somehow seems to get away with everything. They’re that “perfect” ex who ran off with someone else. Or maybe they’re just the totally normal guy who served you coffee this morning.

Psychopaths look like you and I, but there’s one big difference: they don’t have a conscience. They can harm others with absolutely no sense of remorse or guilt. They spend their lives learning how to mimic normal human emotions, but they don’t actually experience any of those feelings. Things like compassion, love, trust, and forgiveness — all just convenient vulnerabilities to be exploited.

To any onlooker, a psychopath will slip through life unnoticed. They’re likable, friendly, and charming (not at all over-the-top). But to those who are unfortunate enough to become close to a psychopath, a nightmare will begin to unfold. What starts as a fairy tale slowly transforms into an incomprehensible mess of mind games and chaos.

Wondering if you might know (or even be in a relationship with) a psychopath? Here are the top 10 warning signs, according to thousands of survivors, as surveyed in the Psychopath Free online support community.

  1. They reel you in with idealization, love-bombing, and flattery.

Image result for psychopath

When you first meet a psychopath, things move extremely fast. They tell you how much they have in common with you — how perfect you are for them. Like a chameleon, they mirror your hopes, dreams, and insecurities to form an immediate bond of trust and excitement. They constantly initiate communication and seem to be fascinated with you on every level. If you have a Facebook page, they might plaster it with songs, compliments, poems, and inside jokes. (You can read more on idealization here.)

  1. They prey on your emotions with pity plays and sympathy stories.

Image result for psychopath

You’ll quickly find a soft spot in your heart for them. They often seem cute and innocent at first (forget your television idea of the arrogant narcissist with a flashy car). They’ll probably mention their abusive ex who’s still in love with them. They say that all they’ve ever wanted is some peace and quiet. They hate drama — and yet, you’ll soon come to notice there’s more drama surrounding them than anyone you’ve ever known.

  1. They involve you in their own versions of “love triangles.”

Once you’re hooked, the triangulation sets in. They surround themselves with former lovers, potential mates, and anyone else who provides them with added attention. This includes people that the psychopath may have previously denounced and declared you superior to. This makes you feel confused and creates the perception that the psychopath is in high demand at all times.

    Image result for sex

Whether it’s a romantic dinner, or going to the movies, he will never take you out of dates. Actually, it’s kind of agonizing for him to. This is because all he would be thinking about is getting home and having sex. Why would he go and suffer through a two-hour dinner just to get home, pop a Viagra and get down to business with you?

Booty calls are exactly that. It’s just about sex. Forget the dinner and romance. In occasional cases, you might even sleep over, but make no mistake, he is just using you for sex.

  1. He only Wants To Talk Dirty

    Image result for sex

He’s always like a teenage boy when he first sees you, clawing at you right away. He’s constantly kissing you or talking dirty to you. And while you’re texting about your bad day, he quickly reverses it with anything he can find to engage you sexually.

You’re a booty call. You’re not in a relationship. A relationship requires listening to all the stuff that you went through during the day, and he should do it willingly, openly and amazingly.

Not all relationships work that way no matter how much we might want them to. When there is violence, the relationship can become really destructive which can make it both physically and emotionally dangerous. Abuse can be physical, emotional, or sexual. Slapping, hitting, and kicking are forms of physical abuse that can occur in both romances and friendships. Emotional abuse, like teasing, bullying, and humiliating others can be difficult to recognize because it doesn’t leave any visible scars.

Threats, intimidation, putdowns, and betrayal are all harmful forms of emotional abuse that can really hurt not just during the time it’s happening, but long after too. Sometimes, abusive relationships are easy to identify because some of the abuse may be very subtle. In general, abusive relationships have a serious power imbalance, with the abuser controlling or attempting to control most aspects of life.

While appearing to be powerful, abusive individuals are often very dependent upon their partners for their sense of self-esteem. Sometimes they expect their partners to take care of day to day tasks which most adults handle for themselves. Abusive partners often feel powerless in the larger world. The relationship may be the only place where they feel a sense of power. Attacking their partner’s abilities or sense of self-worth is one way that abusive individuals maintain a sense of power, esteem, and control. At a deep emotional level, abusers often feels that they are not good enough and fear abandonment. By keeping their partners in a fearful or dependent state, they attempt to ensure that their partners will not leave them.

The word is so often misused that we forget which behaviors are actually narcissistic, or the difference between a narcissist and a self-centered jerk. However, according to a study conducted at the University of Alabama, narcissists are more likely to induce jealousy in relationships to meet their own goals: control, or sometimes a boost in their self-esteem.

In the review, which was published in the journal of Personality and Individual Differences, the researchers explored whether narcissists intentionally provoke romantic jealousy. A total of 237 undergrad students were asked to fill out a personality traits questionnaire, jealousy-inducing behaviors and the motives for those behaviors. The questionnaire would be scored using a rating tool known as the “Five Motives for Inducing Romantic Jealousy” (MIRJS) after looking for narcissistic traits.

The results showed that mind games were based on the type of narcissism the partner possessed. The first type, grandiose narcissists were more likely to induce jealousy to gain power and control within the relationship. Meanwhile, vulnerable narcissists were motivated for various reasons, including power/control and insecurity. You should also know that, grandiose narcissists were less likely to use jealousy to boost low self-esteem.

This is how to identify “grandiose narcissism” and “vulnerable narcissism” In people. Those in the former subtype are marked by entitlement, extraversion and high self-esteem. Meanwhile, the latter describes someone who comes across as shy, socially anxious and quiet, but then becomes stuck-up, and makes others feel worse to boost their self-esteem.

According to Gregory Tortoriello, study author, and a psychologist at the University of Alabama “There is some element of normality to narcissists, in that they pursue goals much like everyone else does,”. He told Live Science.

However, narcissists will do so in a devious way based on their narcissistic nature and end goals.
